AP ART.

(on the left is a couple things i made in ceramics in 7th grade. a pinch pot jack-o-lantern and a rattle. on the right is my latest project, finished to the greenware stage.)
so i would just like to take this time to reflect on my year so far. (since my project updates are getting a little repetitive.) When the year began I was a little skeptical about this class. I thought it would be super tough and stressful and I thought that I would possibly start seeing Amy in a different light, judging from our very first critique and how harsh she was. (hahah.)I was afraid that I might get kicked out or fail because the deadlines were so strict and short! However, none of this is true. I have seen an improvement in myself, artistically, just in the first 2 months! It's forcing me to come in nearly everyday- sometimes more than once-but I love it! I love how my sketches are literally coming to life and I love the sense of teamwork and community that we are building in the class. And I love the challenge! Not to mention, I am in fact seeing Amy in a different light but thats because I realize more and more how lucky I am to have her as a teacher, and to be in this class. I know it will get more stressful, but...... bring it on baby.

Family of Boxes, halfway done!

This is just an update on my Family of Boxes project. Can anyone guess who these boxes are representing? Answer- My mom, and my brother. 2 more are coming: one for me and one for my dad. and if i can, im gonna try to do some more. but they might not be before the 29th. ANYWAYS.... The bow on my mom's pot is bugging me a little bit because it is not perfect and it is supposed to be representing her desire to be/look perfect (going with her personality)... so im not sure what to do. I am gonna clean it up a little bt once its a little bit drier, but if for some reason it doesnt look like i want it to, does anyone have any suggestions for alternatives to the bow? (I've never done anything like that before so i wasnt really sure how to go about it, but i just used a coil.) and in case someone was wondering whats up with the lid of my mom's pot, i actually messed it up. I attached a slab to a thrown pot and then i started to cut off the top with a cheese slicer but didnt realize how wet the clay was in the inside still and i ended up doing it way too fast and messed up. but then i realized... my mom is NOT perfect. in fact she's a little nuts. she just likes to pretend shes perfect. so i went ahead and worked with my mistake to show that. and then tied it together with a little bow. well anyways, here are my first 2 boxes, basically done. and ps- the whole sarah davis bottom thing has officially stuck with me. i hate trimming and i think this looks better anyways.

A Family of Boxes (in Progress....)

i started my family project last week. and so far its coming along great. my only concern is that i wont be able to finish these in time for the deadline. but i will try my best. This box here is almost finished. it represents my brother. my brother is kinda a jagged-edge guy. He loves metal music, which i don't understand. and he loves video games and tv shows with crude humor and he teaches himself the guitar. I decided to portray him through the shape of the box, kind of a crooked organic, yet geometrical shape. I'm gonna glaze it black and white and for the decoration, im carving tiger striped-looking triangles into the main form. I like how its turning out, and the other ones are coming along nicely as well...

a family of boxes

This week I have started my "family" project. it is going to be a family of boxes! My last project made me really fascinated with boxes and left my mind tingling with all sorts of ideas and sketches of different kinds of boxes i could make. This picture is of two boxes i found on the internet that i really liked because of the creative lids, handles, and textures. this is what i want to achieve. not this exactly, but the same sort of elements.
each box in my family of boxes is going to represent one of my family members. however, since i have like ten family members due to a stupid divorce, im gonna make my mom, dad, and first brother essential, and then as i move into the half siblings and step parents, i will try my best to finish them on time, but not hurt myself doing it. I'm really excited to start this project, and i have lots of sketches!
